Reasons To Visit Our Travel Clinic

We Are Experts!

Travel Immunizations

Travel immunizations can be complicated – talk to us, we’re ISTM certified

The travel immunizations you require depend on your personal history (age and medical history) and your itinerary (destination, duration, and activities while there).

Dr. Dhatt and Dr. Gauthier are certified by the International Society of Travel Medicine to provide the latest in travel advice, and are the only ISTM certified physicians, providing travel advice in Northeastern Ontario.

Yellow Fever Certified

Yellow Fever is a live virus vaccination that is a requirement for travel to some destinations in Africa and South America.  Only certified Yellow Fever Vaccine Centers can administer this vaccination and we are the only private Yellow Fever Vaccination Center in the North.

We’re also found on the Public Health Agency of Canada‘s very exclusive list of certified travel clinics, specifically offering Yellow Fever.

Most travelers are not well informed regarding their risk of contracting illness outside of Canada.

Most travelers are not appropriately immunized even by Canadian Standards.

Patients who visit friends and family outside of Canada may be at highest risk of becoming ill and are the least likely to seek medical advice before travel.

Pre-travel consultations can decrease illness due to vaccine preventable diseases and educate the patient regarding specific risk and management of these risks.

It’s not all about immunizations!

Travel is not just about immunizations.

Learning about food and water safety, insect precautions, local diseases, preventative therapies and treatment of illness is part of a comprehensive travel consultation.

We have provided 4,000 travel consultations to travelers throughout the North.

Make us part of your trip planning!

Not every trip is for everyone!

Certain destinations require consultation before you go.

Traveling to Altitude, Yellow Fever vaccination and Immunosuppression are all significant considerations before booking a trip!

Vaccine Criteria

Recommended – based on your itinerary, vaccines will be recommended to decrease the incidence of contracting vaccine preventable diseases (drug plans may cover these).

Required – certain destinations demand vaccines before entry.

Routine – an update of your basic vaccines based on the Canadian Immunization Guidelines (OHIP covers these).

The most common side effect of vaccines is local tenderness at the injection site.  To maximize compliance, many vaccines may be administered during the same visit – this does not result in any increased side effects.

Yellow fever vaccination is only administered in designated certified sites, such as NEOMO Travel, to ensure quality and safety with its administration. Yellow Fever is therefore not available through your pharmacy.

There is some helpful information available for patients on the Public Health Agency of Canada (http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/tmp-pmv/index-eng.php) and Vaccine411 (https://vaccines411.ca/en/). It should be noted that we subscribe to a comprehensive travel medicine database called Travax that provides us with detailed information (i.e. medications, vaccinations, activities to avoid, and other details you should know for your travel) and is updated on a very regular basis to provide you with the most recent recommendations.

Be sure to bring medications in the original containers from the pharmacy with a valid label for both prescribed and over-the-counter medications. If you are traveling with narcotic prescriptions, a note from the physician who prescribes that medication is required so that they are not seized during travel.

Yes, in some cases there are vaccines that are required for travel in certain regions. For example, Yellow Fever vaccination is indicated in those travelling in the amazonian regions and Menactra (Meningogoccal) vaccination is required for travel to Hajj in Saudi Arabia. These guidelines vary by region and new recommendations are ever-changing therefore checking in with a travel clinic is important to assure you are best protected for the environment at the time of your travel.

Please know your medical background and medications. We do require a valid health card for any routine vaccines. As previously stated we do not have access to your immunization record therefore please bring your copy along with your visit or contact Public Health at the Health Unit for more information or getting a copy. To serve you with proper and specific information regarding your travel it is necessary to have your detailed travel itinerary.

There is parking available at the front and the back of our building, free of charge, for your convenience.

Currently we are only located at our South End Sudbury establishment. Our address is 2009 Long Lake Road, Suite B5, Sudbury, ON, P3E 6C3.

Yes, we do accept walk-in patients although please be advised that you will need the necessary information (i.e. travel itinerary, previous immunizations, your medical history) for the visit. Furthermore, if someone has a booked appointment at the time of the walk-in, there may be a wait to be seen. We do our best to accommodate you and get you ready for your travel!

Unfortunately, your local health unit is responsible in keeping your immunization records private. That being said, NEOMO Travel does not have access to these records and therefore to better understand your past immunization history, patients are responsible to contact the Public Health via your local Health Unit for their records and bring them during their consultation. For more information regarding routine vaccines in Ontario that are publicly funded, please see http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/pro/programs/immunization/docs/immunization_schedule.pdf
